Anyone watching Question Time tonight will not fail to have been struck by the valiant rearguard action fought by David Aaronovitch, obviously parachuted in to help out Wendy Alexander.
He was virtually her only ally in the Glasgow programme, apart from a couple of rather dismal and lonely individuals in the audience who felt that 28 days detention was plainly insufficient for terrorist suspects.
Wendy's performance, it has to be said, was very very pathetic.
During the initial introductions, the Labour leader was shaking like a leaf, and her subsequent opinions justified this fear.
Not an opinion of note passed her lips on the questions relating to the performances of Brown and Darling, lest she piss off her masters elsewhere.
On the issues of West Lothian, the Barnett Formula, and the armed forces, she was similarly weak.
Sturgeon and Annabel Goldie wiped the floor with the rest, coming across as thoughtful, non partisan, and intelligent.
