Fifty million quid.
Strewth, guv.
Strike a light.
The latest figures on the deficit running at Aberdeen City Council.
How is this possible?
How can it be that an SNP/LibDem administration can get this kind of debt going in under a year?
Well, that at least is what Labour would have us believe, in the form of such dubious characters as Frank Doran and Anne Begg, local MPs and self appointed Nat bashers.
The truth, as ever, is somewhat more ........ painful for our pink tribunes of the people.
The previous administration (Lab/Lib, if you're still reading this) had ramped up spending, and the vast majority of this debt was built up during their administration.
Now in the past, this deficit might well have been quietly made up by the Labour Executive in Embra.
Imagine their shock, when an SNP government was elected.
No more bail outs.
So, it was inevitable that the proverbial would encounter the fan.
What also came out was that public assets were sold off at knock down prices.
Resulting in the early retirement of the Chief Exec. of ra Cooncil.
Labour's approach to damage limitation is crude, hypocritical, and typical of their opinion of the electorate.
It's called: "BLAME THE OTHER LOT FOR OUR FAILINGS, and, oh yes, GET THE TRADE UNIONS AND OUR OWN ACTION GROUPS JUMPING UP AND DOWN".
Which is precisely what this shower of charmers has done.
Time, I think, for our SNP administration in Aberdeen to get its act together and do some heavy rebuttals on Labour's tissue of lies, half truths and downright evasions.
It's worth asking why this situation was allowed to get so far out of control.
In the oil capital of Europe.
Which had the highest per capita income in Scotland for god knows how long.
Has Labour spent the past 30 years buying votes and exceeding budgets to do so?
Where lies their moral right to manage anything more than a flushing toilet?
